A Fresh Vision + A New Community
Over the past few years, the leadership of Portland First Church of the Nazarene has experienced a growing desire to actively share and live out the Gospel in ways that connect with emerging generations. Under the leadership of Pastor Mark Goodwin, the church board began to listen, pray, and dream together about how this may be accomplished. As they did, it became clear that God was leading PFCN to take bold steps in launching a new ministry. In July of 2011, PFCN called Jason Veach to lead in the formation and development of a new disciple-making community that would have a distinct mission yet remain connected to the existing congregation. The hope in pursuing this strategy is that it would allow for intentional partnership and family-like connection, while also maximizing missional effectiveness. In the fall of the same year, a core group of people began to gather for meals, prayer, worship, and service. Out of this process, Eden Community was born. Ultimately, we desire to see a fresh movement of God, defined by a people who are passionate about connecting with this generation and being the church for the sake of others!
