10 Essentials for Love

God’s #1 Message

Exodus 20:1-3

The first 4 Commandments deal with our relationship with God.  The last 6 Commandments deal with our relationships with others.

 

The starting place for a healthy relationship with others is a healthy relationship with God.

All of the Commandments are built on the first commandment.

 

Exodus 20:1-3

How do we know who is first in our life? Three tests:

 

  1. Who or what do I value most?

 

  1. What or who is occupying my time and attention the most?

 

  1. What is hindering me from giving everything to God?

 

The First Commandment reveals:

 

  1. A God Who Cares.

 

“I am the Lord your God…” Exodus 20:2

 

  1. A God Who is Jealous.

 

I the Lord your God am a jealous God.”

Exodus 20:5

 

Holy jealousy says: “You are so special – I love you so much that I cannot and I will not share my special relationship with you with any other god.”

 

  1. A God Who Fulfills.

 

There is no such thing as a true atheist.  Man instinctively believes and worships.  Every person has a god.

 

The question of the first commandment is, “Who is first in your life?
