10 Essentials for Love

Text Message #10

Exodus 20:17

“You must not covet your neighbor’s house. You must not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor.”

Exodus 20:17 NLT

True religion with contentment is great wealth.”

I Timothy 6:6

After all, we didn’t bring anything with us when we came into the world, and we certainly cannot carry anything with us when we die.  So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.”

I Timothy 6:7-8

Jesus taught:

  1. I. Things do not have the power to bring happiness.

Contentment can come only from personal relationships with God and with others.

People are more important than things.  Who you are is more important than what you own.

Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where they can be eaten by moths and get rusty, and where thieves break in and steal.  Store your treasures in heaven, where they will never become moth-eaten or rusty and where they will be safe from thieves.  Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be.”

Matthew 6:19-20

Jesus’ contentment came from treasuring His Heavenly Father’s will and in treasuring a renewed relationship with you and me.

  1. We are to concentrate on permanent things rather than on temporary things.

No one can serve two masters.  For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other.  You cannot serve both God and money.”

Matthew 6:24

Contentment comes when we escape being a servant of things and become a servant of God.

When God wished to give us the greatest gift of all, He did not give us gold or possessions, but He gave us Himself.  He valued a relationship with us more than anything else.
