Becoming A Sanctuary for God’s Son Luke 1:28-35, Galatians 4:19 2nd Sunday of Advent…Peace
” Oh, my dear children! I feel as if I am going through labor pains for you again, and they will continue until Christ is fully developed in your lives.” Galatians 4:19 (NLT)
I. Jesus comes when we need him most, but desire him least. Everyday Jesus confronts us with the question that the innkeeper faced. “Is there room for me?” “Each of us is an innkeeper, and we decide if there is room for Jesus.” — Neal Maxwell
II. Jesus offers what we need most, but understand least. He whom all the heavens cannot contain comes to dwell in the hearts of those who welcome him.
III. Jesus calls us to become like Him, but we know Him least. “Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? (I Corinthians 6:19) That is Paul’s way of saying, “Don’t you know that your body is the Bethlehem of God’s Son?” The purpose of Christmas is not realized until you and I become the dwelling place of God. Why is Jesus so concerned about our behavior and our character? 1. He wants his lost children to come to know him through us. 2. He is trying to get us ready for heaven. He is preparing us to be his guests forever.
IV. Jesus reserves us a room, but we appreciate it least. “there was no room in the inn…” Luke 2:7 “I am going to prepare a place for you… When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. John 14:2-3 (NLT) The question of the hour: Will I offer my life to God to be a sanctuary for God’s Son?
