With Jesus at the Well The Woman at the Well John 4
If you wanted to insult a Jewish person; just call them a Samaritan.
Palestine is a small country. It is only 120 miles from the north to south but there were three distinct areas: Judea in the south, Samaria in the center, and Galilee in the North.
10 Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to…”
We cannot receive the gift of eternal life until we take off the masks of pretense and come before Jesus with honest self-disclosure. Until we are honest with God, we cannot enjoy an intimate relationship with Him. When the truth about our behavior makes us uncomfortable, it is always tempting to shift the focus to an intellectual issue rather than deal with our behavior. Worship that is void of truth is false worship. To worship God in spirit and in truth means to be totally transparent in His presence. Jesus Christ is the very embodiment of truth and he requires his followers to be people of truth. v. 26: “Then Jesus told her, “I Am the Messiah!” Sooner or later we are confronted with the issue of all issues…God is God and we are not. Step one is conversion: Confess your sins. God uses a despised Samaritan harlot to be his first evangelist to the Samaritan people. The very thing she was embarrassed about …her past … is the very thing he redeems and uses to draw a whole village to himself. “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” |
