With Jesus along the Road

The man born blind gains his sight

John 9

Sermon #4 in series

“There is none so blind as those who will not see.”

Lesson #1:  False questions result in false answers.

Tragedy is not a time to ask “Whose fault is it?” but rather “What does God want to say to us Rather than pointing a finger, we are to look for what God is doing.

All disease; all evil tragedies; all corruption are ultimately the result of sin.

Lesson #2:  People are more important than our theology

When your theology allows you to demean other people; it’s not good theology.  When your theology allows you to love theories about God more than you love God; it’s not good theology.  When it is more important that you win your theological argument than to love the person you are arguing with; it’s not good theology.

Lesson #3:  We cannot remain neutral about Christ.

The progression of faith:  “man;”  v. 17 “a prophet;”  v.33 “the man of God;”  v. 38 “the Messiah that he worships.”

The progression of disobedience: “man;” v. 16 “not from God;” v.24 “a sinner;”  10:20 “demon possessed”

When we obey, the light of his presence illuminates us; when we disobey him, the light of his presence blinds us.

“The Jews cast him out of the Temple but the Lord of the Temple found him.”

Chrysostom
