With Jesus at a Sheep Fold

Jesus is the Way

John 10

35 When Jesus heard what had happened, he found the man and asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”

36 The man answered, “Who is he, sir? I want to believe in him.”

37 “You have seen him,” Jesus said, “and he is speaking to you!”  38 “Yes, Lord, I believe!” the man said. And he worshiped Jesus. John 9:35-38 NLT

Could we allow Jesus to introduce Himself and His Father to us this morning?  Could we set aside our preconceived ideas and sit with the healed man and just enjoy being introduced to our amazing God?

There are 5 descriptive characteristics of God given by Jesus in this passage:

  • Intimacy: John 10:3&4 “He calls his own sheep by name…his sheep follow him because they know his voice.”

As you read God’s Word, listen for the voice of God.  As you quiet yourself in his presence, expect to hear his instructions.  He is calling.

  • Protection: 9:11  “The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.

How can you accept God’s protection this week?

  • Guidance: 10:3b-5 “He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. 5 They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.”

Rather than seeking guidance; seek the Guide Himself. Rather than seeking to gather information to make the journey that you choose, seek to follow the One who is walking ahead of you.

  • Care: 10:10 “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”

What would happen if every day I said to Jesus, I truly want the fullness of life that you are offering me today?  I want to experience the kind of life that you came to give me.  I am not asking you to bless my plan; rather I am asking you to open my eyes to your plans and your desires for me.

  • Access: 10:9 “I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures.”

How are you seeking to gain access to God?  What are you doing to get his attention or to have an audience with Him?  Jesus says to us, I am the gate…I am the way… to the Father.  It is useless to try to find him any other way.
