Watching; Not Just Waiting
Acts 1:9-11; Luke 21:27-28, 34-36; Titus 2:11-15
Today, millions are acquainted with the doctrine of His Second Coming; only a few have the hope of His Second Coming. Many have intellectual knowledge of God’s love; much fewer have been transformed by God’s love.
To promote the hope of His second coming is to promote a change in our lifestyles and a change in our attitudes.
“Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.”
“False Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect-if that were possible. See, I have told you ahead of time.” Matthew 24:11-13, 24-25
Every time Christ or His apostles spoke of Christ’s second coming, they did so in order to remind Christians that: (1) His coming is a glorious hope for Christians. (2) Their lives should be characterized by faithfulness, consistency and submission to Christ.
“So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!” Luke 21:28
His coming is an event to be celebrated. It’s like preparing for a wonderful reunion with our very best friends.
During this season of Advent, the plea from our God is that we go beyond merely waiting for our Messiah to return and begin watching for his return.
