DO YOU LOVE ME?
John 21:15-17

After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?
“Yes, Lord,” Peter replied, “you know I love you.”
“Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him.
16 Jesus repeated the question: “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
“Yes, Lord,” Peter said, “you know I love you.”
“Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus said.
17 A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep.

Our model for passionate love is Jesus; not his emotional disciples who deserted him.

What did Jesus mean when He asked: “Do you love Me more than these?”

A.    Perhaps Jesus pointed to the fishing boat, the net, the fish and all that went with that occupation that Peter loved so much. “Peter, do you love Me more than you love your occupation?”

B.     Perhaps Jesus pointed to the other disciples when He asked that question. “Peter, do you love Me more than you love these men?”

C.      Perhaps Jesus pointed to the disciples and said, “Peter, do you love Me more than these other disciples love Me?”

Three times Jesus had warned Peter.
Three times Peter publicly denied Jesus.
Three times Peter is asked to publicly declare his love for Christ.

We prove our love for Jesus Christ by loving others. We prove our love for Him by being committed to the people that Jesus is committed to.

What is Jesus committed to? The salvation of men, women, boys and girls.
