When Hope Becomes Hopelessness
II Kings 4:1-7

Four characteristics stand out in this story:

I.                    There is an urgent need.

For the first time in her life, she comes face to face with having to look beyond her present resources to God’s resources.

II.                  There is great desperation.

Desperation will either drive us to God or it will drive us from Him.

Our response to our crisis and our pain will determine if it is an enemy or a friend.

This woman confesses her total helplessness and her need of God.

III.                The complete confidence that is expressed.

Elisha knows what this lady does not know – God is in the oil business.

His confidence builds her confidence

IV.               The abundance of God’s supply.

God gave as she obeyed.

She limited God by the number of jars she gathered.

We experience God’s blessings to the degree that we bring our life to Him in total obedience.

She set the standard of her living by the extent of her obedience.
