Crises: Opportunities to Love Others Genuinely
“Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ.” Philippians1:27 NLT
“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ Philippians1:27 NIV
The words translated “conduct yourselves” come from a Greek word that literally means “Be a good citizen.”
“You are writing a gospel,
A chapter each day,
By the deeds that you do
And the words that you say.
People read what you write
Whether faithful or true:
Just what is the gospel
According to you?”
(Source Unknown)
“You, yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. You show that you are a letter from Christ.” II Corinthians 3:2-3
“Suffering is a megaphone to arouse a deaf world.”
“It is infinitely easier to suffer with others than to suffer alone.” Dietrich Bonheoffer
“Stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the Gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you.” Philippians 1:27b-28 NIV
It was in the context of a crisis that God chose to love us in a way that changed everything. When his Son, Jesus, was suffering unimaginable pain from abuse and awful torture, God chose to love us; not get even with us.
The Lord’s Supper is the most powerful reminder on earth of his decision to love us passionately when justice demanded that he give us what we deserved – death.
The Lord’s Supper is an amazing invitation to experience what can happen when a crisis becomes the occasion for love rather than an occasion for revenge or bitterness.
