Why Did God Demand Sacrifices?
Exodus 12:1-14
Why did God require that an innocent lamb be sacrificed?
I. To point to the seriousness of sin.
· To make light of sin and excuse it is to insult God.
· God desires that we be awakened to the destructiveness of sin.
II. To point to the supreme and perfect sacrifice that would one day be offered.
· “Reason cries, if God were good, He could not look upon the sin and misery of man; His heart would break.” The Christian points to the cross and says, “His heart did break!”
· The skeptic declares, “In such a world, how can we keep from sin? It is God’s fault; God should be punished!”
The Christian kneels and whispers, “God accepted our responsibility, and punishment: look at Jesus!”
