Conflict: an Opportunity to Love Others Genuinely
Philippians 4:2-9
We all know how to create conflict, but how do we resolve it?
No person can be at peace with God and continue in conflict with others.
Biblical principles for dealing with conflict:
1. Remember who you are and whose you are.
“Because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement.” (Philippians 4:2 NLT)
Our identity as followers of Christ determines how we handle conflict.
“God doesn’t want his children holding grudges.” Philippians 4:2 The Message
1. We should enlist the help of fellow believers when we can’t resolve the conflict. v. 3
The church is not to ignore unresolved conflict but rather to aid in resolving it.
“Where two or three are gathered in my name, I will be there.” Matthew 18:20
3. “Rejoice in the Lord.” v. 4
We cannot genuinely rejoice in the Lord and continue to be antagonistic toward one of His children.
4. “Be Gentle.” v. 5
5. We are to remember that “The Lord is near.” V.5b
6. “Do not be anxious.” v. 6
We are responsible for our attitudes.
7. “Present your requests to God.” v. 6
8. We are to then live in the confidence of verse 7: “The peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
9. Choose what we think about. v. 8
Assignment: Memorize Philippians 4:5 “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. NIV
