NEWS FOR EVERYONE

Labor Day Weekend
Join us September 5 for a casual worship service in the Gym, followed by lunch!  All Sunday School and ABF classes will be cancelled that morning.  All children (including babies) will participate in the family-friendly service with their parents.

Alabaster Offering September 19
We will be receiving our semi-annual Alabaster Offering on Sunday, September 19.  The Alabaster Offering provides funds for property and buildings around the world.  More than $92 million has been given since its beginning in 1949.  Pick up an Alabaster box at the Missions Center.  The boxes are a great way to collect your change and also serve as reminders to pray for those people who will benefit from Alabaster buildings.

Alpha
Alpha is starting soon!  Click here for all the details.

Ladies Bible Study
Ladies, you are invited to a Bible study at PFCN every Tuesday morning, 9:30-11:30, starting September 21!  Childcare will be provided.  We will be using Beth Moore’s study of Esther to explore trusting God through the tough times of life.  Please contact Pastor Shawna Rench if you are interested in attending!

Choir Starts Soon!
If you have any interest in joining choir, come check out our first rehearsal – Wednesday, September 8, 6:30-8:00 p.m.  We would love to have new voices join us!  We meet in the Choir Room on Level 3.  Please contact Pastor Brent Wyss for more information.

Wednesday Evening Activities
Community Dinners and other Wednesday evening activities resume on September 15!  Dinner starts at 5:30 in the Gym and costs $3 per person age 4 or older with a maximum family cost of $10.  The menu for each week is posted online.  Please RSVP for dinner each week via the online registration form.  Other activities, including children’s programs, Epicenter, MOPS, and a Call to Prayer, begin at 6:30 p.m.  We hope you’ll join us!

Church Directory
Please remember to let the church office know if your phone number(s), email address(es), or mailing address(es) change so we can keep our directory updates current!  Just give us a call at 503-297-6100 or email Brianna Waldridge at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Thanks for your help.

GIRLFRIENDS UNLIMITED
Book Club Resumes in September
Ladies, please join us on Tuesday, September 14, at 6:30 p.m. as we explore what occurred in London during the cholera epidemic of 1854, and discover how that event has shaped the world in which we live.  The Ghost Map by Steven Johnson was selected as the “Everybody Reads” book for 2010 by the Multnomah County library.  We will meet in the Fireside Room; please enter on Level 3.  New participants are always welcome!  Questions?  Contact Kathryn Oliver or Nancy Schmidt.

Shopping Junket
Saturday, September 25:  Explore NW 23rd Street, eat, and shop!  For those interested in meeting for breakfast, we will meet at 9:00 a.m. at Nob Hill Café, on the corner of 23rd and Lovejoy.  If you do not want to meet for breakfast, join us at 10:00 before we all head out to explore the Pearl District and NW 23rd.  Some have talked about riding the MAX into town and then taking the streetcar to the Pearl area, or some might want to carpool with their own vehicles.  However you choose to get to town, we are looking forward to a fun day together!

CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES

Missionary Book Reading Challenge
Kids, how many missionary books can you read this summer?  There are six current titles available, and if you read all six by September 19, you’ll be invited to a pizza party at Papa’s Pizza Parlor on September 26!  Congratulations to Brianna Smith for recently completing all six books!  All together, 167 books have been read so far this summer, which means we beat last year’s total of 145!  Books may be checked out from Pastor Jesse & Pastor Shawna’s office.

MISSIONS

Exciting Update
The Sun Valley Indian School has received 1,191,221 Campbell’s Soup labels toward a new minivan!  That’s 74% of the way to the 1,600,000 total labels needed!  Thank you for sending your labels and please keep them coming!  Please submit the whole label with the UPC code intact to the Missions Center at any time.  We also wish to thank Ila Rap for her faithfulness in regularly packaging and mailing the labels!

Thank You
Thank you to everyone who has donated clothing for Emanuel Hospital’s clothes closet!  You may continue to bring items appropriate for street-living to the Missions Center at any time.  The most useful items are pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, new underwear, new socks, shoes (anything but high heels), jackets, hats, gloves, blankets, and sleeping bags.  Please do not donate blouses, dresses, skirts, or petite clothing.  Thank you!

PFCN FOUNDATION

Question of the Week
“Will a Living Trust keep my estate out of probate court?”  Answer:  Most often, depending on how the trust is funded with your assets.  If you would like more information about estate planning, please contact Karen Garrison in the church office to set up a free and confidential appointment with an estate planning specialist.
