NEWS FOR EVERYONE

Labor Day Weekend
Join us September 5 for a casual worship service in the Gym, followed by lunch!  All Sunday School and ABF classes will be cancelled that morning.  All children (including babies) will participate in the family-friendly service with their parents.

Memorial Service
A memorial service for Nadine Grobe will be held here at PFCN this Tuesday, August 31, at 11:00 a.m.  Please continue to pray for Robert Grobe, Chuck & Judy Price, and other family members during this difficult time.

Choir Starts Soon!
If you have any interest in joining choir, come check out our first rehearsal – Wednesday, September 8, 6:30-8:00 p.m.  We would love to have new voices join us!  We meet in the Choir Room on Level 3.  Please contact Pastor Brent Wyss for more information.

Wednesday Evening Activities
Community Dinners and other Wednesday evening activities resume on September 15!  Dinner starts at 5:30 in the Gym and costs $3 per person age 4 or older with a maximum family cost of $10.  The menu for each week is posted online.  Please RSVP for dinner each week via the online registration form.  Other activities, including children’s programs, Epicenter, MOPS, and a Call to Prayer, begin at 6:30 p.m.  We hope you’ll join us!

Women of Faith
Escape from the everyday at a Women of Faith weekend and be refreshed, encouraged, and inspired!  October 8-9 at the Rose Garden Arena.  $89 includes boxed lunches both days.  Contact Dorcas Belles in the church office by Wednesday, September 1, to reserve your ticket!

Open Door Cafe
The Open Door Cafe will be closed this month, reopening on September 12.  Huge thanks to all of our volunteers!  Enjoy your break!

Book Club Resumes in September
Ladies, please join us on Tuesday, September 14, at 6:30 p.m. as we explore what occurred in London during the cholera epidemic of 1854, and discover how that event has shaped the world in which we live.  The Ghost Map by Steven Johnson was selected as the “Everybody Reads” book for 2010 by the Multnomah County library.  We will meet in the Fireside Room; please enter on Level 3.  New participants are always welcome!  Questions?  Contact Kathryn Oliver or Nancy Schmidt.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES

Joyful Noise Preschool Choir
All 3-year-olds through Kindergarteners are invited to sing the Creation Musical on September 5!  Practice CDs have been distributed.  A rehearsal will be held at 10:15 on September 5 in the Kid City Clubhouse (across from the Children’s Ministry office).
  

Missionary Book Reading Challenge
Kids, how many missionary books can you read this summer?  There are six current titles available, and if you read all six by September 19, you’ll be invited to a pizza party at Papa’s Pizza Parlor on September 26!  Congratulations to Katey Rench and Tyler Rench for recently completing all six books!  All together, 148 books have been read so far this summer, which means we beat last year’s total of 145!  Books may be checked out from Pastor Jesse & Pastor Shawna’s office.

All Children in Worship Service September 5
There will be no Sunday School classes, nursery care, preschool classes, or Kid City on September 5.  All children and babies will join their families for a special family-friendly worship service in the Gym.

Entertainment Books
Entertainment Books are now on sale!  Pick up your copy today in the Level 4 Lobby for $25.  Proceeds benefit Student Ministries and will help send our high school students to NYC next summer in Louisville, Kentucky!

MISSIONS

Exciting Update
The Sun Valley Indian School has received 1,191,221 Campbell’s Soup labels toward a new minivan!  That’s 74% of the way to the 1,600,000 total labels needed!  Thank you for sending your labels and please keep them coming!  Please submit the whole label with the UPC code intact to the Missions Center at any time.  We also wish to thank Ila Rap for her faithfulness in regularly packaging and mailing the labels!

Thank you to everyone who has donated clothing for Emanuel Hospital’s clothes closet!  You may continue to bring items appropriate for street-living to the Missions Center at any time.  The most useful items are pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, new underwear, new socks, shoes (anything but high heels), jackets, hats, gloves, blankets, and sleeping bags.  Please do not donate blouses, dresses, skirts, or petite clothing.  Thank you!

Need a Time of Refreshment?

Need a time of refreshment before the busy fall season is upon us?  Join other active 50+ adults at the Oregon/Washington Prime Time Retreat at Canby Grove Conference Center along the Molalla River, September 15-17.  Inspiring Bible studies and worship times with Dr. Clarence Kinzler; meal, snack and game time fellowship; craft sales and off-site excursions are just some of the activities available.  Attend one event, one day, or the entire three-day retreat.  Prices vary; see fliers at the Information Center.  Please contact Kathryn Oliver if interested in carpooling.
